Books are better… much better.Sometimes old-school is the best school.

Researchers at Harvard Medical School confirm that use of a light emitting e-reader or smart phone can have negative effects on the sleep cycle and inner clock of the user.

“The body’s natural circadian rhythms are interrupted by the short wave-length enriched light, otherwise known as blue light, from these electronic devices. Those using an e-book or smart phone take longer to fall asleep, have reduced evening sleepiness, reduced melatonin secretion, later timing of their circadian clock, and reduced next morning alertness than when reading a printed book.” (Dr. Anne-Marie Chung)

Printed books also require more focus to read, resulting in improved comprehension. An Italian study in July 2014 found that “the haptic and tactile feedback of e-readers and smart phones does not provide the same support for mental reconstruction of the story as a printed book does.”
